With Bastille Day rapidly approaching, we’re busy planning the first annual Legrand Bastille Day Soiree. There will be some great French food, and of course French wine. Here’s the opportunity to host a great wine tasting party featuring some fantastic wines. Here are some suggestions for how to choose the wines for your tasting.

How Much 

As always, 4 to 5 wines should be a perfect number. If you have a dozen people, two bottles of each wine would be sufficient, but if you plan for a wild soiree, you may want to pick up three. Begin with the lightest wine and move towards the heavier ones. Blinding the wine is always fun, and WineParty will be a fun way to do it. 

What to Feature

Here are some possible wine themes: 

Bordeaux

Serve a white Bordeaux as your starter wine and then serve a wine from each region in Bordeaux: Pomerol, Graves, Margaux, Entre-Deux-Mers, Medoc, Pauillac, Saint-Émilion. Compare and contrast the differences.  

Burgundy (this could be a bit pricey, but worth it)

Start with a Chablis or Pouilly-Fuissé for your starter wine and then pick Pinot Noirs from each of the major regions Pommard, Côte Chalonnaise, Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits.

Rhône Valley

The Rhône whites here such as Condrieu or Hermitage can be delightful, as can be the reds from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Côtes du Rhône, Côte Rôtie, Gigondas, Hermitage, or Tavel.
