Julie and I recently attended a delicious tasting of Portuguese wines in San Francisco. The event was hosted in part by the Portuguese Trade and Tourism Office, which helped us develop our WinePassport: Portugal. So we were fortunate to get a personalized tour of some of the wines.

While we had tasted several Portuguese wines during the editing of our newest WinePassport, getting to taste dozens in one room was a heady experience—not because we got tipsy, but because so many of the wines are excellent, and are great values. I wanted to stay longer and taste more, but I tasted about 15 wines and after that I stop being able to taste very well. It seems that Portuguese wines are just starting to really break into the American market...so take advantage of the low prices and start exploring…

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and as the creators of SexSmarts, we feel compelled to post something about it. There’s all this pressure on Valentine’s day…you’re supposed to have a date, go out to a fancy dinner, buy roses, chocolates, or even jewelry, and have fabulous sex. Being wine-lovers for too many years to count, Jen and I have both given and received every wine-related gift possible. While we do think our products WineSmarts, WineParty, and WinePassports, make great gifts for wine lovers, it would be a bit tacky if we showed up with them to all the holiday parties I go to, so here are a few of our favorites wine gifts to give and to receive.

We had a great CocktailSmarts launch party at the sultry Blue Owl on December 5th. A big crowd of Elite  Squad members of Yelp got their first peek at CocktailSmarts, and enjoyed delicious cocktails mixed by bartender extraordinaire (and editor of CocktailSmarts), Charles Hardwick.
