| Après Ski – Time to eat and drink! (Part I) |
A fantastic year for wine, food & ski This year has been one of the best ski seasons in years, and I have been lucky to take advantage of some excellent skiing, while enjoying some amazing food and wine...
I’ve heard that if there’s good skiing in Colorado, it’ll stink in California, then vice versa. Well, this year is quite different. We were blessed with an early ski season in Colorado (which I hear was one of the best in 20 years or something like that), followed by a stellar late-ski season in Tahoe.
I had a meeting in Eagle, Colorado last January, and was fortunate enough to get some skiing in. We started out with a fantastic day at Vail (which makes California resorts look tiny), and ended the trip with a half-day at Sunlight Mountain Resort which is a fabulous little-known resort in Glenwood Springs, that’s great for families or if you just want to get a half-day in (or if your tired of shelling out $82 at Vail). And a bonus to Sunlight Mountain is getting there, which involves a fantastic drive through Glenwood Canyon, one of the most beautiful sites in America.
During my Colorado trip I checked in on an awesome new wine shop in Edwards that carries our products, called Eat! Drink! (note: website still under construction – which doesn’t do it justice – trust me it’s a fantastic shop). I wish there were more places like this around the country – it’s an approachable wine shop that’s bright and stylish with an adjoining wine and cheese bar.
I’m starting to see a number of these “on-premise / off-premise” shops starting to open up, and I think it’s brilliant. Like wine tasting in Napa or Sonoma, of course people want to taste a bit of wine before they purchase it. And providing some tasty cheeses or other snacks that you can eat there or take home, makes the tasting experience even better. Next time you go skiing in the Vail area, be sure to check out Eat! Drink! for a fantastic wine experience. Or if you can’t make it to Edwards, check out Bin36 in Chicago, VinoVenue or Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant in San Francisco. And if you know other good ones, let me know – I’d love to check them out! Stay tuned for my ski and food experiences in Tahoe. Mmmmmm! |
